Provides in-home visitation for families of children birth to age five. Parents and or caregivers receive support and resources to help them ensure a positive school experience for their child.

Research shows that some young children are exposed to more language in their homes, early learning programs, and school settings, than other children. This difference in the number of words and back-and- forth interactions children are exposed to during the early years is called the “word gap”. The first 2,000 days of your child’s life — the time between when they are born and when they enter kindergarten — are the most important days to build school and life success.

During routine visits parents will receive a developmentally appropriate book to take home and read to their child. This program begins at the 6 Month check up and continues through age 5.

This program provides free books, monthly to children living in Davidson County ages birth to five years old. Participating children receive an age appropriate book each month, mailed directly to the child from the time of registration until age 5. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library supports preparing children for kindergarten by exposing children to the concepts of print, encouraging child/parent reading and increasing early literacy skills.
